At Majesticare, we’ve always believed that our responsibility doesn’t end at the front door of our homes. True care is about more than just providing a safe space; it’s about reaching into the heart of our community and making a tangible difference where people live their daily lives.

Recently, our Quality & Development Lead, Sarah, took our mission on the road. She visited the local Waitrose to spend time with their team, delivering Dementia Friendly Training designed to turn everyday interactions into moments of support.

By the end of the session, the team didn't just walk away with new skills; they became Dementia Friends. When you see those badges on their uniforms, you’re seeing a promise to lead with patience and understanding.

Why this Matters

We often talk about "community," but for someone living with dementia, the community can sometimes feel like it’s shrinking. A busy supermarket or a noisy shop can become overwhelming. When we equip the people we see every day, like the team at Waitrose, with the confidence to step in and help, we’re helping to keep that person’s world open.

It’s a fantastic example of how small, intentional actions create a ripple effect. It’s about ensuring that a trip to the shops remains a simple pleasure, not a source of anxiety.

Understanding the "Why" Behind the Training

It’s easy to use the word "dementia," but it is often misunderstood. It isn’t a single illness; rather, it’s an umbrella term for a range of symptoms. While we often associate it with aging, it can be linked to many factors, and it affects every individual differently.

Common experiences include:

  • Memory loss that goes beyond simple forgetfulness.

  • Communication barriers, such as losing the thread of a conversation.

  • Disorientation, where even familiar routes can suddenly feel strange.

  • Emotional shifts, including increased anxiety or a loss of confidence.

With around 850,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK, a number that is expected to rise, the need for awareness has never been more urgent. Education is the bridge that turns confusion into empathy.

Living Our Values: The Power of "Heart"

At the core of Majesticare is a driving value: Heart.

To us, Heart means showing up with compassion and a genuine commitment to improving lives. Sarah’s initiative at Waitrose is that value in action. It’s about taking the expertise we have within our homes and sharing it freely to make the world a little bit kinder.

When a community becomes "Dementia Friendly," it doesn't just benefit those with a diagnosis. It builds a more patient, inclusive, and connected society for everyone. We are incredibly proud of Sarah for her dedication to this cause, and we look forward to continuing our work to strengthen the bonds within our community.

This is Care.

This is Heart.

This is Majesticare.
